This free 12-week group programme run by Abuse Prevention Services is for women who are or have experienced abuse/family violence in their relationships, or grew up in a home where there was abuse/family violence. This may be physical, emotional, verbal, sexual or financial.

The objectives of the programme are to impart understanding of family violence and how it affects women and children, what power and control is and cycles of abuse, learning about healthy relationships and equity, parenting strategies for children who have experienced or witnessed abuse, learning about self-care, boundaries, anger, and healthy communication.

The average group has between 6-12 participants. It is confidential and run by skilled facilitators.

Free childcare is provided where possible.

It is a closed programme, which means once it has commenced no more women can join (after week two).

Women may refer themselves or be referred by the courts (if they have a protection order), Oranga Tamariki, or another support agency.

The programme is scheduled to start on 14 May and will run on Fridays 9:30am-12pm in the Helensville area.

To register email alex@abuseprevention.org.nz or call her on 021 023 20297.
