Kai Collective Midwinter Appeal
As winter folds around us household budgets are stretched. We need your support today.
Kindred Family Services is immensely proud to be involved with Kai Collective Te Awaroa and every day we see first hand the impact these kai parcels are having on our clients, like Kelly*:
“I can see a future now for me and my son and I look forward to it. I couldn’t see this before because I felt like I was drowning. But, now we have hope and it feels a breath of fresh air.”
Kai Collective Te Awaroa provides much needed support with nutritious food parcels, but despite donations of fresh fruit and vegetables from generous suppliers including food rescue, its monthly food bill is still around $5000. But by buying in bulk, it can make your contribution go much further.
This week it launched a Midwinter Appeal with a lofty goal of raising $10,000 to support those families doing it tough in South Kaipara and northwest Rodney this winter.
Rather than asking for donations of non-perishable food, the community is being invited to make a cash donation which will amplify a donor’s impact.
The Kai Collective team did an exercise where they created a standard weekly shop of staples, including canned food, rice, pasta, cereal, milk, eggs, cheese and vegetables. It might cost $82.50 at the supermarket to buy everything on the list, but by tapping into the Kai Collective’s own suppliers it can bulk buy the same items for $36.80.
This also gives the ability to create recipes built around the food they have on hand so everyone who receives a food parcel from us has the ingredients to cook a healthy, nutritious meal for their family.
In the last 10 months the Kai Collective Te Awaroa has provided:
Over 1969 kai packs,
to support over 223 families.
including 402 adults and 339 children.
That’s an astonishing 70,884 meals.
Every dollar helps, and every dollar is a demonstration of the heart and compassion this community has for its own.
